I took my first motorcycle, Kawasaki KLX 250, in for it's first oil change (9/18) at 600 miles. When it was returned to me the drain plug was not screwed on properly and a little oil leaked on the garage floor. When I examined it, the oil was still dirty. So I did my own oil change, and the oil was clearly dirty and had not been changed. The service manager was most uninterested in believing me, even after I sent him photos with a glass jar full of dirty oil!! Yes I do my own oil changes now and will not use them for scheduled maintenance. NO STARS for the rating.

First of all, I've bought two new machines from MPS and have had absolutely no complaints. However, I just had my second issue with the service department. I understand better than many, that the outcome of service / repair (on just about anything) isn't always predictable - things happen. I recently had my Yamaha Grizzly in because of a starting issue (and tire issue) - turned out that the battery cables were loose (and needed 2 new back tires). For those of you who don't know, Yamaha was nice enough to tuck the battery away under the front plastics and rack on the Grizzly. It's less than a 5 minute job once you figure out what bolts have to come out and how to pop the plastic fasteners that hold all the plastics together (thanks youtube). Anyways, loose battery cables should be an easy fix...right? Well, the day following me picking up the machine from MPS I decided to check the repair. Upon disassembling, I could see where the battery posts were cleaned with a wire brush or similar abrasive. However, when I put my hand on the cables...yes, cables (plural) - I could move both the positive and negative cables with very little pressure. I could only guess how long a repair of this quality would hold up during normal riding. Absolutely, NOT what i was expecting from this service department. BTW, my first issue with the service dept was about 4 years back, same machine was in for a spring tune up. First time starting the Grizzly after the tune-up and had difficulty keeping it running - turned out that it had a bad spark plug......what, I just had it in to prevent an issue like that. Strike one and strike two..... I don't believe I'll be giving the service dept an opportunity for strike three.

I went to the parts department on a whim, figuring that the part needed would not be in stock. the gentleman at the counter looked it up, did not have it, he was going to order it for me, but I lived 50 miles away. He suggested that I use the Parts Nerd online store and have it shipped to my home. That saved me 2 plus hours of travel and gas. Thanks!
